Not sure where to start to be honest. I was researching articles about epic storytelling and came across this amazing website, and finally decided to reach out across the strands of the Web to meet other like-minded individuals. I have wanted to write an epic story for about 20 years now and have read, conceptualised and crafted my ideas, waiting for a certain level of maturity and "epic-ness". I feel I am ready to commit pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard), and could definitely use some peer review and answers to specific questions. Could someone please direct me as to how and where I pose these questions?
People call me Jay, because that's the first letter of my name (Jonathon). I live near Brisbane, Queensland, in Australia, and Aussies are notoriously laid-back, hence Jay. I am married with 2 small children and I am currently studying counselling.

Jay.

Hail and well met Futhark [aka Jay aka Jonathon]
"like minded individuals" I really hope not, for your sake :p
If its a world build question post it in the World Building sub-folder.
Writing questions under Writing Questions.Showcase is for more finished pieces of work [I believe]
You have to post 5[?] times before you gain access to some sub-folders.
If you post in the wrong area, I'm sure a friendly Mod will move it.
Leap on in and enjoy.
Share what you know and learn what you need.

Oh, so there is no kaliedoscopic minds out there? LSOA (little snort of amusement, since I rarely LOL). Thanks for the welcome Cuppa, I think I will like it here.

Now, where did I leave my wittiest quotes?

Welcome! I joined for the same reason. This community seems really cool and supportive. A great resource for story ideas, concepts and details.

If by kaleidoscopic you mean fractured and chaotic?
Sure. We gotta the plenty. What colour you want?
[For some reason I had Chico Marx in my head saying the words as I typed them]

Like minded is a relative term. My regular relatives have no inkling what being creative is about. This place is refreshing because the opposite is true.

So true Arranah. My subjective perspective of like-minded is open, willing to expand and reach understanding. My objective (objectionable?) relatives seem to have made their mind up about everything already. I've been a member for one day and have already learnt so much. This place is fantastic.

There's that statement about he who knows:

He who knows not and knows not that he knows not is a fool; avoid him.
He who knows not and knows that he knows not is a student; teach him.
He who knows and knows not that he knows is asleep; wake him.
He who knows and knows that he knows is a wise man; follow him.

Mostly I avoid my relatives, and those who knew, have now passed on. So I'm meambling along, finding my own truth and following it.

One thing I know: you just never know.
-- Knox saying.
{I had an apothegm once; nitro helped.}

(srsly, that saying is going in my Sayings bucket. Sounds elvish.)

“What you seek you shall never find.
For when the gods made man,
They kept immortality to themselves.
Fill your belly.
Day and night make merry.
Let Days be full of joy.
Love the child who holds your hand.
Let your wife delight in your embrace.
For these alone are the concerns of man.”

― The Epic of Gilgamesh
