After submitting to and contributing to numerous anthologies myself, I've decided to attempt to throw my own together.
Arthur: King of Ages
The concept: In the King Arthur mythology, it is said the the wizard Merlin lives backwards through time. But what if Merlin was actually advising multiple reincarnations of King Arthur during various different points, and places, in time and history?
For example, Arthur as a 15th century pirate king, sailing the Caribbean and uniting with several other pirates, with Merlin as his first mate? (note: someone already committed to this idea/story)
King Arthur as a Japanese warlord who unifies several clans in Sengoku period (Warring States period) in Japan (circa 1467 — 1603), with Merlin, a Buddhist monk or Shinto priest, as his trusted advisor.
King Arthur as an American Indian chief who unites several tribes to fight off European settlers in the early 1700s, with Merlin as a medicine man.
King Arthur in modern times, uniting his people and fighting guerrilla-warfare style against an oppressive regime (Eastern European Communists, Middle-Eastern Taliban, etc.), with Merlin as his number-one lieutenant.
Or perhaps even a story about King Arthur living in a dystopian future, uniting the people to fight back against an oppressive government, with Merlin as a robot, computer, or some sort of electronic device.
Choose any of the above concepts, or propose your own: King Arthur in ancient Greece, King Arthur in ancient Egypt, King Arthur in Tang Dynasty China, King Arthur as a Norse Viking explorer, King Arthur in a futuristic zombie apocalypse, etc.
We are looking for final stories in the range of 2,500 to 7,500 words. We will collect the stories and publish in an anthology, tentatively titled Arthur: King of Ages, in both ebook and print book formats.
Please send your proposal to [email protected] with “proposal: King of Ages” as the subject line. Proposals should be brief, 200 to 300 words max, simply explaining the time and part of the world your story will take place in, and the general plot. Please include a bio and previous writing credits with your proposal. If we like your proposal, we will get back to you with terms and deadlines for the anthology. We are accepting proposals until May 1, 2015. Thanks!
