A "Find and Replace" Blunder and the importance of editing

I do a lot of writing every day. Not the writing I want to do, unfortunately, but I probably end up with between 7K and 10K a day worth of written material. When I have to go through and make global changes to documents, "Find and Replace" is a huge time saver. But as you all know, Find and Replace can make changes you didn't want if you aren't using it carefully (or even if you are). So I go through a printed version and proofread.

Given how much I use Find and Replace, I found this story particularly funny:

I do one by one as well, unless I've got a long string so that I know a global find and replace won't screw things up. For example, earlier this week I had to replace the phrase "first shoulder member flange 38" with "first shoulder member flange 39." Something like that you can do globally without much fear of a screw up :)
