THAT NIGHT I dreamt I was climbing a tree. Distracted by Ash saying “Hi”, I fell and he caught me - it all replayed exactly how it had happened earlier that day. The change came when he set me on my feet. Instead of letting me go, he held me tight around my waist. His cool grey eyes looked almost silver and they seemed to look deep into my soul. “You’re beautiful” he said, then leaned down and kissed me. It started out sweetly, with light kisses and tender brushes against my cheek and neck. Then he found my mouth and pressed his lips gently against mine. I parted my lips slightly, eager for more of him. My hands moved up around his neck and curled through his hair. I pulled him closer to me until my body was tight against his. My breath quickened and so did his, our kisses becoming more urgent. His hand moved up into my hair as he grabbed it roughly, holding me in place as his mouth covered mine. I felt his tongue slide into my mouth; we moved together, exploring, feeling, tasting. My body was tingling all over and I never wanted the feeling to end. His fingers tightened in my hair, pulling at the roots, causing a sensation somewhere between pleasure and pain; a moan escaped me. He pulled my head back to give him access to my neck, which he covered in kisses, sending shivers of pleasure through my body. My breathing was uneven as he moved back up my neck to my mouth. His lips moved with mine as our kisses grew more passionate. He held me so tight that my body seemed to mould to his. My heart pounded in my chest as I became more and more desperate for him. I gasped for breath as he pushed me back against the tree. His hand moved up my top and his fingers worked to undo the clasp on my bra. Suddenly a loud noise made me jump. We both turned to see an alley cat running from a fallen bin. I wasn’t in the woods anymore; I was down the side street. My back wasn’t up against a tree; it was up against a wall.
Confused I turned back to Ash, but it wasn’t Ash in my arms, it was Jed. I tried to struggle free as he pressed his body up against mine. His breath was coming hard now as he tried to kiss me again, I turned my head and continued to try to push him away, but his hold on me was too strong. He tried to kiss me again, and again I turned my head. Then he bit my ear, hard. I screamed in pain, but it only seemed to encourage him. He pushed his hips toward me and grabbed at my legs, trying to wrap me around him. His breathing became more of a growl. His hand gripped my hair tightly, holding my head still as his mouth moved back to mine; he tried to force me to open my mouth and accept him, all the while getting rougher. I had only one chance to get away and this was it. I put my arms around his neck and opened my mouth to let him kiss me. Just as he thought he’d won and I’d give myself to him willingly, I bit him on the lip, drawing blood. As the copper taste of his blood ran down my throat, I kicked him in the shin and ran as fast as I could. I ran out of the side street and found myself back in the woods.
Branches reached out to grab me, while roots and rocks tried to trip me. I stumbled several times, but managed to keep running. I could hear him moving through the trees somewhere behind me, he was growling and I knew if he caught me I would be in serious trouble. I couldn’t keep this pace up forever and I wasn’t even sure where I was going, so I started to climb. As I reached up through the branches, I heard a snapping twig, terrified I looked down. Ash was smiling up at me “Hi.” I lost my footing and fell. That’s when I woke up.
Covered in sweat and out of breath I leaped out of bed and threw open the French doors. I stepped out onto the balcony and let the cool night air wash over my skin, erasing any trace of my disturbing dream. I stood in my shorts and strappy top that doubled as pj's and gazed up at the full moon that bathed me in light and I took a few deep breaths. Finally feeling a little calmer and maybe able to sleep I went back to bed. I left the doors open to allow the breeze to drift in and keep me cool. I closed my eyes, hoping I would fall into a dreamless sleep. No such luck.
I was in the woods again, this time I was searching for Ash. I saw a clearing up ahead and for some reason I knew I needed to be quiet as I crept through the vegetation. I peeked round a tree and saw Ash, I was about to step out when I realised he wasn’t alone. A tall slender girl, with curly red hair hanging in ringlets down her neck, was standing just in front of him. He moved forward, took her in his arms, and kissed her passionately. I was just wondering if they were going to take this interaction to the next level, when he opened his eyes and looked straight at me. He smiled and winked. He was actually enjoying the fact that I was watching him. I felt sick. I turned to leave and was startled to find two girls standing behind me. They were twins and they had evil-looking smiles that made my flesh crawl. They were beautiful in an ‘I walk with the dead’ kind of way. I tried to step around them, but they moved to block my path. They stepped forward, forcing me to take a step back, bumping into Ash. He grabbed my wrist and dragged me from my hiding place behind the tree. A rope hung over a thick branch. He tied my hands above my head, the rope burning my wrists as I struggled. I couldn’t scream. Every time I opened my mouth, no sound came out.
He stood in front of me smiling a cruel smile and I felt genuinely frightened. The redhead stood at his side and he put an arm around her, pulling her in for another passionate kiss. All I could do was stand and watch. Then he turned back to me and pulled me in until he was holding me tight against him. I tried to move away, but his arms and the ropes held me in place. I refused to kiss him back as his mouth crushed down on mine. Then he stepped back to the redhead, the twins of darkness standing on either side of them, and laughed. They all stood looking at me as if they were waiting for the show to begin.
I felt the rope above me start to move and when I looked up, I saw that it had transformed into a snake. `I hate snakes!’ I stared in horror as the snake started to slide its way down my arm. `Omigod! Omigod! Omigod!’ The snake was sliding round my neck with its tongue smelling me. I could hear Ash and the girls laughing at the fear that was rolling off me in thick waves. The snake started down the collar of my shirt and I could feel its scales slithering over my skin. Panic was really starting to take over now. I closed my eyes and prayed to every deity that I could think of, making any promises for this to stop. Thankfully, somebody must have been listening.
As I stared, wide eyed, a white horse entered the clearing breaking through my fear. It stopped in front of me and the rider held out his hand. I looked back to the snake which had transformed back into a rope, but it hung loosely around my neck and torso in the position the snake had been; I slipped it off me with relief. Gratefully, I took the hand offered by my white knight and he pulled me up, securing my arms around his waist; we rode off through the trees.
The wind rushing through my hair was exhilarating. We cantered on through streams and over bracken until we reached a bright and airy glade that could have doubled as the Fairy Queendom. My knight climbed off the horse and gently lifted me down. I stood in his arms gazing into those intensely blue eyes and kissed Jed passionately. It was incredible!
The alarm sounding shattered my bliss. I feverishly pounded on it until it shut up and sank down into my pillow. `What a dream!’ It might have started out as a nightmare, but `WOW! What a kiss!’ It felt so real. I was still slightly out of breath as I climbed into the shower - turning the temperature down low; very low.
