Geography; The Umtangan Zone

During the Second Great Aurahn War, the great Inannan nation of Umtanga landed many troops in Western Demeta, to wrest it back from the North Vlaksgarders. After the War, they maintained these nations as satellites, ostensibly to discourage Violan or Gallish incursion towards their lands. They had never trusted these powers, though they had collaborated in order to bring down their common enemy.
Southerly Iratoula was the only nation that successfully resisted the Umtangan reforms. The other, less fortunate nations had the Umtangan language, culture and industry forced upon them. Civil liberties were greatly curtailed, including religious freedom.
10 years after the War, the Magyarian Uprising rocked the Umtangans. Gallion diverted troops from a now-resolved skirmish near the Shintael Canal to support the revolt; a move that ensured the liberty of Magyaria decades before it much otherwise have come about.
With the Umtangan power bloc cut in two, other nations were emboldened to reform themselves. Susland put forward a clergyman for supreme office among Aurumites and Torrvania's leader instituted liberal reforms. Both Magyaria and the more southerly Sargassa refused to supply troops to end these reforms.
30 years on from the War, repressed people in northern Umtanga demanded independence and a wave for bloodless revolutions freed both them and Western Demeta.
