Where Are The Humans?

In Kay Pow's world, anthros emerged when humans' DNA merged with the animals they used for food, clothing and other functions. But what happened to the humans themselves? Here's a brief history.

20,000 years ago on Aurah, the world was much the same as it was on Earth during the last Ice Age. Land bridges linked many continents and modern humans had spread over most of the globe.
Then a great pulse of energy from the Forest Star, Theta Proxima, hybridised them with animals they were in frequent contact with. At first the human tribes reacted with understandable fear. Many human/animal hybrids were banished from their tribes, shunned and made outcasts. Newborn hybrid children were often killed to maintain the strength of the group. Yet within 3 or 4 generations, the changes were just too common for humans to resist.
Humans stuck to their own kind as much as possible, although they were becoming increasingly rare. Anthros also teamed up into tribes made up of their own kind, or similar. Anthros of predatory species eventually began turning on both herbivore tribes and humans. Those humans that managed to survive used their ingenuity to build boats and flee to Brama, Oubleria or the islands around Borea. There they remained relatively safe from predation.
12,000 years after the burst from Theta Proxima, the lines of society had been drawn. Humans had all but disappeared from places they could not flee from. Many societies revered them as gods or supreme beings. Other anthro groups, such as the fanatical Brotherhood of The Fur, are doing their best to eliminate them.
Hybrids of placental mammals predominated on Aurah, since they needed to alter their bodies and reproductive habits little enough that they could cope with the alterations to their bodies. Even so, there are rumours of tribes of fish-people living deep in the oceans and tribes of bird people living in forbidding Great Beast Canyon on Oubleria.
