V=d/t (Or some basic distance question...)

As a former soldier, in clear open terrain, carrying approx 40 kilos of gear we where expected to be able to walk 5 kilometres an hour. We would do 40 kilometres in about 8 hours, with 10 minute breaks every hour. The thing is, even with the most comfortable, broken in boots, you get blisters...

Is this a private reading group, or can we all join in? :) :D

Using steampunk in a fantasy RPG / Story?

Ahhh. The old 'original idea' conundrum. With the wealth of writing out there, it does seem to become more and more difficult to come up with a truly 'unique' idea, doesn't it? Your point about an assault rifle by any other name is solid, and I completely agree.

Using steampunk in a fantasy RPG / Story?

Steampunk is a derivative of Fantasy in and of itself, so I fail to see how it would NOT work. Obviously if your writing a 'Steampunk' novel, then yes, you will be chasing a Niche market. If your simply including elements, then theres no reason why it shouldn't succeed. A couple of examples...

Don't even get me started... *rage face* If you read the books first, you'll be disappointed. See thread here - http://mythicscribes.com/forums/film-television/294-thoughts-first-episode-game-thrones-hbo.html

    Raymond Feist or famine?

Agreed. This is why I couldn't read the trilogy when I was reading the Magician trilogy at such a young age, the political interplay overwhelmed me. A couple of years later though, and it blew me away. Much like GRRM has done with his work. The politics is so indepth and convoluted it is a story...

    Raymond Feist or famine?

Aside from being in the 8th grade in the Early 80's (I was being born...) I am in much the same boat. I was introduced through the Hobbit, and the first few books of the Wheel of Time Series. I LOVED the First trilogy of Feists, but the second series was even better. Then I picked up the books...

    Merlin

Glad I'm not the only one who gets riled up when tv shows mess with our beloved legends :)

Best Novels No One Has Heard Of

I highly rate the Ghost series. The Orcs books are a fantastically fun read, because of the change up in protagonists. I highly rate a number of the Games Workshop authors actually. But that's because I'm a Warhammer Nerd :P

I frigging LOVE Arcanum. It's such a detailed world... I'mma go find it and re-install it now... Nox is also a good old game - fills me with Nostalgia. ANd of course, lets not forget the Mighty Fallout franchise :)

    Merlin

Personally, I can't stand the show, BECAUSE of the different takes they have on the Arthurian legends! :P I mean hell, Merlin was an old man by the time Arthur came into his kingship. But I'm a traditionalist, as my copy of le morte de arthur on my bookshelf will atest :P

50,000 word challenge for June - National Novel Writing Month

Who can fail to be excited about the possibility of the devils number?! Yay! More to the point the only people who are commenting on this post are Australian, so Australia FTW! :P Alas, the novel idea I've had in my head for years got stolen by the Night Angel Trilogy by Brent Weeks.... (Well...

Which recent fantasy novels will be remembered as classics?

I think that, without any doubt, GRRM song of Ice and Fire will be considered a classic. (But hopefully not the horrible TV show) The Wheel of Time series MUST be as well (And yes, I harp on about this series, but it's seriously frigging AWESOME!) I would like to think Hobb's work will be...

    Free books?!

For anyone who isn't aware (and you'd be surprised at how many people AREN'T), there is an absolute wealth of books that are now in the public domain, and available for downloading/e-books etc. I am of course, talking about, the Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg - free ebooks online...
