I'm considering using a pen name mainly because my legal name is in French, and I write in English, so there's a dissonance there. My last name in particular is not easily pronounceable in English. Plus, it gives me the option to use a more interesting pen-name.
The magic in the world of the story I'm working on right now follows the same idea as yours, Swordfry, with the energy of magic, called Aura (It was that or Mana, so..) being omnipresent in the atmosphere. To be honest, I took the idea from FF12 :P .
Anyway, it’s related to the world’s solar...
I think the anime and manga Full Metal Alchemist can actually be considered “science-fantasy” (I see it as retro sci-fi, thought the single most prominent element of this would be the Auto-Mail) , as that world’s Alchemy is effectively a form of magic.
My own WIP is going down that route too...
In my WIP, practicing magic is so common place that not being able to do magic would be what's unusual.
There are people, however, who are descendants of "The Ancients", and who have what is called "The Gift of The Ancients", which translate to a longer life expectancy (a couple centuries...
Ha, huh, sure thing, man. Sorry, can't really tell if you're serious (about looking at my work) with the way you worded it.
I've made some steady progress on world-building and story development for my work recently, tough.

Magic in my WIP's world is ubiquitous, both by being able to be used by everyone (not necessarily effectively tough, and it normally takes a lot of practice to be worthy of being called a mage) and by being used to power a wide range of machines and devices. Most armies have squads of dedicated...
Edit: I've changed the world's name to Gaea, and the name of the magical energy is going to be mana, and it's crystalline form Manacite (who needs originality?),
Seeing as my WIP is mostly an homage/affectionate parody of RPGs, both tabletop and videogames, the creatures in it are stuff that has been seen before, Wyverns, Dragons, Zombies, living trees, chimeras, suped-up versions of Real World animals, ect.
Some subspecies will have original names...
My current story has cities of various sizes, the biggest being the capitals of the three continent-spanning empires that occupy most of the setting. They’re about the size of early 20th century Paris, and with populations between 1.5 and 2.5 millions. Other than that, provincial capitals and...
