I'm currently reading Poetic Edda with commentary as well as Joe Abercrombie's Best served cold. I'm enjoying both immensely, for completely different reasons. Usually I despise reading old books with commentary, but I don't think I could get through this without some outside insights.

I'd probably call them conscriptsmen or something like that. Or levyman. Just my 2 cents though.

So, I've had this bigger project for a couple of years, where I've been creating a new fantasy world from scratch. And I've been wondering, do you feel it is detrimental to the story, in a multiple POV book, to have some of the POV characters be just 'normal' farmers, blacksmiths et cetera...

I got 34. I'm just left befuddled at the fact that Paolini got on that list. I mean, his books are something to kill time, but he is definitely not top 100 material in fantasy authors, not by a mile.

I mostly listen to metal, punk and progressive rock music, but when I'm writing, I mostly turn to Two steps from hell and Nox Arcana. Those two make great music for writing, as the melodies really evoke certain landscapes and situations in my mind, like only instrumental music can do to me...

I enjoyed the movies immensely, and still watch them like once a year at least, in one marathon of extended edition goodness. Still, I voted for the books, because I absolutely love them. I read the trilogy + the Hobbit at least once a year, and they will forever hold a soft spot in my heart...

I guess that my most favourite subgenre is gaslight fantasy. Though it's been quite some time since I wrote a story clearly under that genre. It's still the one that I just love writing.
