    Prologues?

Actually, my original question was a statement, but it's fine that you saw it as a question as I probably should have phrased it as one. The statement was that the prologue I have planned occurs twenty-some-odd years before the actual story and in a different world from the one where the first...

    Help with magic

Personally, I think it's unique, especially in a fantasy as it seems rare that magic abilities are caused by virus in fantasies. My only concern, and perhaps you've already addressed this, is how common the knowledge about viruses and other causes of disease was in the middle ages. Perhaps...

    Kill this Thread

I am sooooo tired! I'm going to bed.

    Character Crossover Thread?

Fights aren't the most common thing that happens in a setting like this. A "villain" or a "hero" may just want a relaxing mug of their favorite alcoholic beverage after a long day on the job. Villain and that sort may just want to discuss various torture techniques or even discuss their...

    Prologues?

Thanks anihow, when I'm ready I'll need all the constructive suggestions I can get, but right now it's still all just making it's way out of the primordial ooze! I'll definitely let you know though. For now I have a very rough outline of the prologue that I've been using to "store the...

    Character Crossover Thread?

I like the idea of the cantina as a free-form kind of place where any number of things can happen, just like any other bar, pub or cantina. My characters aren't interested in fighting with anyone and I can't imagine a reason for anyone to want to fight with them, so their power levels don't...

    Character Crossover Thread?

My opinion... let's get this rolling! I like the no loss of time thing but I think I may still take my character out and bring her back as required by her job. That is, if no one else minds. Besides, Father O'Leary already suspects that Mrs. Smith is up to things that she shouldn't be up to...

    Real Name or Pen Name

I use my first two initials and (married) last name for pretty much everything (my artwork, web design, writing) except as my "legal" signature. My married last name is incredibly common and generally neither mispronounced or misunderstood, so altogether my "pseudonym" would probably fit just...

    Prologues?

Too many good points on both sides of the fence so I'm still undecided. I suppose I'll end up doing what I always do when I can't decide... wait and see!

    Character Crossover Thread?

I think that characters should be able to come and go as long as we only have a max of two characters in at any given time. My character's have work they need to do so they may have to leave every once in a while. Trust me, if I let them stay too long I'll never get them back to work!

    Prologues?

Ain't that the truth anihow! That's one of the things I love about writing, there's always more than one way to tell a story.

    Prologues?

As it's currently fleshed-in the prologue I have is almost a mini-story that's somewhere between three and five pages long. It could, conceivably, stand alone as long as the reader didn't care that they weren't going to know a whole lot about the characters or the precipitating events. Rather...

    Suggestions, Feedback, Help!

Unfortunately I can't do that because the King is a real bugger. He's the one who tried to have Adam, and his family's entire household killed, before he was born. He's also the one behind the kidnapping.

    Prologues?

My current story needs a prologue to concisely explain events that happened twenty-some years earlier. The information is important and, while I do plan on using flashbacks and stories to provide some of the information throughout the book (my protagonists don't know their history so it has to...

    Character Voice

I like to write my dialogue out like a transcript, without any indicators of who is speaking, the gestures and movements going on, the location... just he words being spoken. Then as I read through it I can see if it's apparent who's speaking without all of the nonverbal cues. I also try to...
