How to make a character different from, but not better than, the MC

You can give them different interests, political views, emotional states, slightly different ways of talking--

    Demotivated

Thanks for this resource, Chesterama. (linked below) https://www.youtube.com/user/WriteAboutDragons & Thank you to everyone for the encouragement I needed, I am back on track now. :)

    Demotivated

I had finished the first 40 pages of my novel last month. After going to a critique, it became clear that there was a lack of plot and that the characters would need to be severely re-worked. In essence, they had told me I had written 40 pages of character development, rather than the start of...

Plot problem: Where to start your novel?

I am having trouble deciding where to start my book: 1) A modern world that slowly turns into a fantasy world with magic, 2) A world that is already "deep" in it's fantasy aspects. I have written along the lines of #1, but I feel like the beginning is very dull because of this approach...

    Shine Magical

Hello, I'm a 23 year old fantasy writer from NYC. I have only realized within the last year that I am good at writing, but I am trying to write my first novel while I'm still young! It is a post-apocalyptic urban fantasy novel. I had written 40 pages of it, but went to a critique and was...
