What could be a occupation for a dhampir?

This is a very interesting thread to read and definitely a very helpful one! A lot of people have already pointed out the similarities with the Vampire Academy series and while I haven't read them I do somewhat agree. I also do have to admit that the idea of having the protagonist just be a...

Avoiding cliched elves and genre crossovers in a Fantasy Project.

Wow, coming back after about a year and I've found this thread is full of crazy ideas! Elves fighting in the cold war of the 1950s, Disco Elves (which would put them in 70s), Elves in space (I like that idea especially) and considering that I've lost the original Elf Princess manuscript perhaps...

Have you ever rewritten your first story?

I actually wrote my first story as a composition for my English exam in 11th Grade (four years ago) and I tried to rewrite it a short while after I started my first novel and unfortunately I couldn't remember it well enough. It was a short paranormal/romantic tragedy type story. the main...

    Elf Story Problems and Ideas

Originally titled 'The Elf Princess' the story was going to end with the princess being kidnapped and having to be rescued. There are several problems with that though; 1. All elves are trained as good fighters 2. It becomes a whole 'damsel in distress' story (which I hate with a passion)...

    A slight character problem

Hi all, not quite sure how to classify this one; I'm having a problem with the ending of my elf story. I was originally going to have the story's princess get into trouble and have a male lead get her out. The problem is that first, it would become the stereotypical fantasy damsel in distress...

Modern World + Elves and other fantastical things = ?

You make a good, solid point here and I have been wondering about that...maybe I should start with something smaller and use this line as a future project; might be better if I take my time thinking out the story properly first.

Modern World + Elves and other fantastical things = ?

You mean Terry Brooks, right? I've never actually read his books. I tried the Shannara Chronicles when I was about 12 or 13 just after I finished the Lord of the Rings books as well as the Hobbit and Silmarillion...maybe I'll give him a try.

Modern World + Elves and other fantastical things = ?

Dwarves wandering into a subway...great for comedic effect, almost as good as Gimli's 'not the beard!' line in Lord of the Rings; Fellowship of the Ring...

Modern World + Elves and other fantastical things = ?

Hey everyone, I posted a thread a little while ago about avoiding cliches and crossovers in fantasy projects with elves and such. I've gotten some huge amounts of feedback and input (for which I'm very thankful). I've thought of a new angle for my elf story but at this point it's just a...

Avoiding cliched elves and genre crossovers in a Fantasy Project.

Well, thanks; I've been busy getting my debut science fiction novel ready for publication so most of the projects I've been working on have been put on hold but I'm still working on them as I get time.

That makes so much sense that it's frightening. :D

How is Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle Unique?

Hey, You are right, I didn't actually think of Star Wars being a part of the plot (although, now that you've mentioned it I can see several similarities.) Angela is probably my favourite character in the whole series.
