Sunstones Are Real

I wasn't sure where to put this. I hope this is of interest to some.

It appears that something called a "sunstone" actually exists. The way it works would fit in a fantasy setting easily. The fact that it's real adds plausibility and authenticity.

For centuries, it has been a crystal of legend locked in the verses of Norse myth with little or no evidence that it was ever real. Now it seems scientists at last have grounds for believing that the Viking “sunstone” used to navigate the seas did indeed exist.

I love the idea [let alone the reality] of this...
I wonder if you can do the same thing with polarised sunglasses... off to do some research...

I've used a sunstone in some of my stories, albeit different from the ones the Norse used. Mine was full of divine magical flaming power :D

The first thing I thought of was Melanie Rawn's Sunrunners. I could see them using something like this at one time. Maybe. :) what a neat find!
