Gender in Publishing

But yes, there's things online where you can input a few thousand words, and it'll tell you if you sound male or female. Such as: The Gender Genie

Hmm. My score: 7 to 3, in favor of "female" (plus, astonishingly, one tie). Looks like I may need to do some work in "disguising" my gender.… :p

First-Person Narrative:
Female Score: 539
Male Score: 441

Third-Person Narrative (in which the story is written):
Female Score: 645
Male Score: 923

Half-Finished Seminar Paper:
Female Score: 1712
Male Score: 3220

... I'm female. I find it interesting that the biggest 'male' result was in my academic writing (and is the biggest gap in results), and the biggest 'female' result was in first-person narrative (of a male character). I'll leave that one for the armchair psychologists.

Imagine my surprise to find out that I am male.... Crap! My stickie-outie parts are in the wrong place!
