Hello everyone! I'm Mau, it's great to meet you all!
I've been looking for a fantasy writing community for a while now, and yours looked like the best I've seen so far. :)
A little about me, I'm 34 and live with my boyfriend of almost 12 years. Together we have 5 cats and live out in the country. I'm currently studying to be an English Teacher, and currently hold a position at a local pizzeria.
I've always been a huge fan of the fantasy and science fiction genre. I'll admit my favorite book series to date are Harry Potter, and the Chronicles of Chrestomanci, I've also dabbled in a bit more adult fantasy like The Black Gryphon by Mercedes Lackey. I also enjoy fantasy inspired video games, Japanese anime and cartoons. And I'm a huge Sonic and Lion King nerd, haha!
Since 2011 I've been working on my own novel called "Sky Kingdom." It takes place in a fantastical world of anthropomorphic animals known as Ark'eth, and there's elements of both magic and science fiction. The story follows a young feline princess named Ravine. When a cruel dictator, a hybrid cat/bird named Ishkar stages a coup d'etat against the throne and it's citizens claiming it for himself, Ravine is sent far away to the land of Rodentia. Ravine is raised in secret by Javelyn, a jerboa skilled in the art of swordsmanship. Ravine's journey will be one of self discovery, as she embarks in her quest to find her way home, learn about her people, and save them from Ishkar's cruel reign of tyranny, before he destroys them and ultimately, all feline kind from Ark'eth.
I have another story as well, one that I felt would be geared more toward Harry Potter aged readers. "Magicordia" which follows the story of a young girl named Isabel Connelly. She's an ordinary girl, albeit one who grows up in a somewhat wealthy environment who accidentally stumbles into the magical realm of Magicordia. Isabel starts out as a bit of a snobby know it all, until she learns there's one thing she simply can't do: Magic. Along her journey, she ends up learning to humble herself, and realize even she has weaknesses. The world of Magicordia itself was created by dragons and fela flies as a safe haven for magical creatures and practitioners and has been closed off from our own world, which they refer to as simply "Old Earth" for three hundred years.
Fela flies are magical cat creatures who share about 98% of DNA with common house cats so they are classified as feline. So they are as close to domestic cats as we are to chimpanzees. They are found throughout my worlds, both in Sky Kingdom and Magicordia and are kind of my writer's "signature" to let you know this is a world that I've created. The tiny cats are highly intelligent, usually about the size of the end of your pinky finger, and have dragon-fly like wings. They tend to congregate toward a favorite magical element and form colonies around it. Unlike other cat species, these cats mate for life. They form strong community bonds and make great messengers. But, they're still cats and have the fun, playful nature that most felines have.
Anyway, that's a bit about me and my fantasy creations. Once again, it's nice to meet you all! I look forward to sharing stories on here!

Hail and well-met MauEvig
Good to have you here.
Hope you like this place as much as I do.
It is a great place to learn and share.
When you wrote "hold a position at a local pizzeria", my mind went to Yoga for some reason.
Sorry about that...

Hello Mau and welcome to Mythic Scribes! Thank you for sharing your worlds with us. . . I have loved anthropomorphic creatures my whole life. An early (8yrs old) interest in Ancient Egypt set that in stone and that has been a thread in my world ever since. And feline stories? Oh, I'm in. . . no matter the size, just as long as they are also indifferent at times and tend to fly the other way when summoned :)

Mau,

Glad you joined us here. I am an English teacher, what you're studying to be. It is a worthwhile career, but very time consuming.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes! lol, at the holding a position in yoga, I get it! Regardless one must make money somehow, and good jobs are scarce.
Having an occasional indifferent attitude? I can do that. So far most of the fela fly characters I've introduced have acted as messengers.
That's most awesome about being an English teacher too! My only concern is being able to find a job in my chosen occupation.

Welcome Mau,
Lots of love in this place. So do you own the cats or do they own you? Haha. I've been told when they outnumber you it can be that way. Sounds like your love of animals has transgressed into your writing. Very interesting concepts for stories. When you say 'messengers' do you mean they exist and travel in each different world for communication? Just curious.
Anyway - Welcome and enjoy all the vaults of knowledge here. They are fantastic as are the people.

Haha! I suppose it depends on the time of day. Odd as it sounds I suppose, I see my cats as my furry kids.
And yes it most certainly has. My cats as well as other animals and most movies/video games that have animals in it has certainly been an inspiration. I've also considered doing a comic staring our cats and their "adventures! "lol
I'm glad you like the concepts!
It's possible. Honestly I haven't quite figured out how they do it, why they do it, and if they travel between worlds. They're quite mysterious creatures. Those are some good questions to ponder while I develop the species further!
Thank you! So far there's a lot of cool people here! :)

Hello Mau, from the (so far) newest member! With your interests in cats and anthropomorphism, I wonder if you've ever encountered a comic book called "Omaha the Cat Dancer." You might find it in your local comics shop. Authors are Reed Waller and Kate Worley. It's "Adults Only," though it isn't really pornographic, just sexy (somewhat). It's not really about the sex; it's a soap opera about an anthropomorphic cat who happens to be a stripper. Think humans with animal characteristics. Anyway, it's among my favorite stories, though its creator lost steam when his wife and co-creator passed away.

"Studying to be an English Teacher, and currently hold a position at a local pizzeria. Sounds like the kind of life I've had (if not the specific position). If I've learned anything from where I've been, it's that you should NEVER give up on your dream. Your job is only what you do for a living (we get into bad habits like eating and paying the bills, LOL); your writing is who you truly are.

Anyway, welcome!
