1. The films were released around Christmas time
2. The films always play around Christmas (In a bunch of European countries at least)
3. Grand, inspiring narrative that will last through the ages.
4. Who better to reflect a time of comfort than the Hobbits?
5. Elves
6. Love and compassion prospering in harsh environments. Sure, we've got cold and they've got Mordor, but still.
7. Both are tales of good and light shining in the dark.
8. Both Gandalf and Santa draw from Odin. Both are majestic bearded mages.
9. Rrrrrrrrrressurection! Sure, the Christmas related one happened a little further down the line, but still.
10. Redemption arc of Boromir has to count for some extra Christmas points.

In conclusion, LotR are the universal Christmas movies.
Enjoy yourselves folks, and maybe hold a LotR marathon if you find the time ;)

Sorry, but Die Hard is the best Christmas movie. This is a fact.

Sad to tell you so close to the end of the year, but there must have been a misprint in your Fact book.

To me only Sissi (very old film series of an Austrian empress) is a runner-up to LotR. Beautiful visuals, romantic setting, good plot and enough kitsch to keep it christmas.

Ha! Joke's on you. My fact book is never wrong! It says so in my fact book.

The best Christmas movies are very obviously:
1. Die Hard
2. Ernest Saves Christmas.
3. All the Futurama Xmas episodes
