In what ways are you enjoying demolishing the fantasy genre?

I always enjoying taking characters that have no business being main characters and making them the focal points. People actually incapable of handling situations instead of the typical 'young, strapping guy/girl who overcomes everything with hidden- destined- strength' or 'daring and witty, basically invincible, character'. Then making these characters likable or, at the very least, someone they can relate too.

Making them old, not particularly attractive, not good in a fight, not the brightest bulb, self-loathing, and all those other attributes you never give to the usual protagonist.
