Baclava FTW

Okay it is an odd title. This post is about room for creativity in marketing.

My wife is over in the UK promoting her upcoming novel. She was at the Harrogate Crime Writers Festival with many friends and her editor.

Anyways her publisher over there (Headline) has a tent out in the garden. Every hour they are promoting one of their authors in a different way at the tent. My wife's novel has a Greek-American MC and is partially set in Greece. For her hour they gave away free Baclava with samples of her novel. They gave away hundreds of samples to the fans there and the promotion was a great success.

It really goes to show that there are very few bounds to marketing and still plenty of room to be creative and get people's attention.

Both her UK team and her US team are doing a ton of creative stuff for her to create buzz for her book. While I have heard (and believe) the stories of lack of support from traditional publishers, there are still plenty of stories of traditional publishers doing great things to promote even debut authors.
