Diversity in SFF Magazines

ThinkerX

Myth Weaver
Just took my first romp through the listing in 'Ralan' in several months.

The 'pro' paying markets appear to dominate, the listings for non pro markets are on the sparse side, and often have notations along the lines of 'closed to further submissions until...'. Many of the non pro publications left appear to be niche or fringe magazines.

I did note quite a number of publishers in the 'book' section now accepting novella length works. Maybe a novella market really is developing? I have seen a couple of books on the local shelves with two novella stories done back to back as of late, something I literally hadn't seen in a dozen years beforehand. Likewise, the local library is starting to carry books that are collections by the same author: usually a novella or two, along with a bunch of short stories. (apologies, this is of particular interest to me as I seem fated or cursed to write mostly novellete to novella length works)
