So while writing my novel Islandfall, I've been thumbing through some books on Hawaiian Mythology and Lore, helping me get a feel for the archipelago setting. I noticed in one particular tale a romance between a god and a human had an uncanny resemblance to the romance in my story. The woman in my story has had a placeholder name for about three years, a name I haven't bothered changing. Would it be a total cop-out to name her after the woman in the story?
Story->Hiku and Kewelu.
I feel like this would give a little more depth to my story, rooting it in some real legends. The stories aren't identical... but the romance is actually really close to the same.
Cop-out or meaningful, guys?
