Gods and Wizards

Insolent Lad

Maester
I started up (yet another) blog a little while back to post bits of this and that about my Izan Cycle novels (21 books so far). That would be Annals of Izan (https://annalsofizan.blogspot.com). I drop in a bit of information on my world-building and such now and again. Anyway, the latest post is up, a short discussion on the concept of the soul and how it fits into the overall mythos. That would be at: Souls
It is entirely likely I'll write more posts someday. And maybe even finish another novel or two. We'll see.

Myth Weaver
You write in the opening that souls do not exist. Then you soften, but you are the author. It is as you say.

But your characters may not agree with you.

Why is this important to the tale? I suppose it keep you from writing about ghosts, but the idea of spirits and afterlife is super strong in cultures everywhere we look. I have trouble believing, regardless of what is stated as true, that the characters will every wholly subscribe to it.

People will believe what people will believe. This is simply the basis of a fairly strict magic system.
