Good steampunk introduction?

I've decided to act on a simmering interest for the Victorian era and thought about trying to read a Steampunk novel but I'm unsure of where to start. So I turn to this forum to ask if anybody has some good recommendation for a first read in this genre?

Why not go back to the beginning with Moorcock's Nomad of the Time Streams trilogy. Warlord of the Air, the Land Leviathan and the Steel Tsar, if my memory serves.

Myth Weaver
It's a bit different from what we call Steampunk but I'd include some Jules Verne especially 20,000 Leagues under the sea.

Not exactly a novel, but the webcomic Girl Genius. More Gaslamp punk, but still hits a few of the required tropes.

Lindsey Buroker was an Indie pioneer in the Steampunk category. Her books are great. I highly recommend her Flash Gold series.
