I have a few writing goals this year and one of them is to increase my verb diversity. I'm getting much better at writing actively, however, I tend to latch onto one verb and use it over and over and over until it's almost the only way I describe a particular motion regardless of character.

Some of my favorites:
  • stumble
  • stomp
  • wander
  • murmur
  • walk
  • travel
  • throw
  • etc

I wondered if anyone had come across an organized list of motion verbs? I found one linguistics paper that would work if I do some work in condensing a thesis paper. And I'd rather not have to do extra work if something like this already exists. (I've found some lists of action verbs, but they were mostly for resumes and not motion-related, so not as useful.)

I use thesauri all the time--in revision. I wanted a one or two page document that I can look at as I write and find the category I need and pull out a different than normal verb and use it instead of one of my favorites.

If there isn't such an organized list in existence, who would like a copy of what I come up with?
