Integrating fire in everyday dragon life

So I’m writing a story about dragons and my protagonist can’t breathe fire. I want to make this stick out as much as possible. He’s a hunter by profession and his father was a blacksmith (which he can’t be because he can’t make fire.) Other than in those professions, how can I limit my protagonist and turn his disability into more than an inconvenience?

One idea. Make it part of the dating/mating rituals. No-one will think of him as a potential partner as he's just not Dragon enough...
Not what I’m looking for, but definitely something to include. It gives him a reason to be blind to his best friend’s feelings for him— he assumes she only likes him because they’ve grown up together and doesn’t see him as a potential mate because of his disability. Meanwhile, she thinks he’s the one who sees her as a friend rather than a potential partner, because he’s always trying so hard to attract other dragonesses.
