My therapist did suggest that I try to reignite the passion for writing I had years ago that has since waned. They suggested a community like this, and from what I’ve seen so far it’s a good place to start. I do love fantasy, and I’ve written in the genre many times before. I’ve lost all my old writing, and today I only ever write for TTRPG modules. I’m currently writing a research-based D&D 5e/24 module set in classical Greece. I’ve dabbled in world building and short story writing recently, but nothing really sticks. I’m anxious to be part of a community where I can read other writing and have people read mine, but interested.
So, I’ll start with a question. How do we feel about science fiction here? Not in general, buts specifically for this community. Are we strict in fantasy, or are the lines blurred? If so, to what extent? Where do we delineate between science fiction and fantasy? Or, is the definition of “fantasy” so thin that it applies to more than it doesn’t apply to?
I’m very interested in all your thoughts.

I’m a fan of sci-fi. I’m also one of the few who classifies it as a sub genre of fantasy. That is, of course, unless you’re writing hard science fiction. There’s no doubt that Star Wars is science fantasy but then again so is Star Trek.
But I digress…regardless of what you like to write about, you’re welcome here because Mythic Scribes is a place for writers.
So let me be the first to officially welcome you, Berenike. I look forward to seeing your work.

I dont mind SciFi stories appearing, and as other have said, they are kind of fantasy anyway.

I am not sure I would mind if this was fantasy/SciFi site either, but....if the site was to drift, and become too scifi-ee, I might ask if the site has lost its identity as a fantasy site. I suspect that wont happen.

The book I'm releasing this spring is a military science fiction novel set in the fantasy world of my first series. The characters don't recognize that they're in a fantasy world, so they don't see Drow; they see dark-skinned aliens. They don't see castles; they see primitive alien fortifications. If I did this right, it will show that SF and Fantasy can be simply a matter of perspective.

Welcome to the forums.

Hello and welcome! I don't care about the line between science fiction and fantasy persionally; I think there's a ton of overlap in many cases. If you're looking for a forum that's more specifically dedicated to that you might also try ssfchronicles.com (in addition to, not instead of this site!), but I'll admit that when I tried it I wasn't too impressed and I didn't feel like the forum was particularly useful. Lots of chatter, much of which isn't even related to writing.

Anyway, this is a great community to disuss your worldbuilding and short stories! Even if you don't finish a story, it can still be fun to share the idea with other people and go back and forth about it.
