I just started formulating the basis for a new world and I'm trying to figure out what to call a unit of magic.

For context, a character might say: "Hey, this crystal only has 1 [Unit] of magic!"

I was thinking about volt or amp or something like that.

I've seen "thaum" used in that way, mainly in the Discworld books.

Make something up. Thaum does sound substantial, though.

You could use anything you desire, really. A made up name or unit.

Some random suggestions (because much depends on how magic works and/or is stored).

Lights...as in that spell will cost ten lights of energy, or his wand has ten lights capacity.

Same with beats or pulses or whatever.

I'm thinking I might just call it after whoever I decide discovered the ability to collect this energy.

Mana, I would say is the typical choice.

Or at least quantify it, yeah. Sounds like the most sensible choice.
