Writing a Series

When you know you are going to pen more than one book about your main character, do you work some on them all as it comes to you, or focus on them chronologically? What's your reason for your choice?

Thanks for your time!

I'm more inclined to make notes of ideas or scenes as they come while still focusing on finishing the current novel. That way I can refer back to said notes and make changes, if need be, without the need of rewriting an entire scene of future works. It also helps when wanting a certain event to happen in a future novel and you want to slowly lead up to it in your current novel.

When I thought I was going write only one book I laid it all out. I found it was too long to keep all the pertinent info in. The other pages have lots of sticky notes on them as time goes on. But I find I'm growing bored working on the first one. I think I am too familiar with the subject because my proofers are always anxiously awaiting the next part. Maybe I just need a break. Thanks for your insight!
