What are everyone's thoughts on a forum soley for teen/youth authors and roleplayers? It would function similar to this forum, just geared for teens and youth to become authors specifically. Just an idea, I know that isn't a huge audience.

If there is enough interest and you can get a moderator to accept it, it's do-able.
Don't know how many members would qualify for the requirements.

If you can show interest just offer it as a suggestion/feedback at the top of the forums page.

  3. What would the requirements be? Under 18? Under 21?

We could start a thread all our own to share our experiences, ideas and struggles. But personally, I think it's best for us to intermingle with the older scribes. Diversity is good. We can learn a lot from them, and I wouldn't hesitate to say that they could learn from us too.

So, something like a "Casual Roleplay" forum, "Geared towards younger writers looking for a laid back atmosphere to interact with other writers"?

It's up to Black Dragon if he wants to add such a forum. But I'll move this to the suggestions forum. And if you, personally, have an interest spending time posting in such a forum, please hit "Thanks" on this post so that we can gauge interest.

Either that or a whole separate Forum site. It was an idea I wanted to toy with but I guess a thread in chit chat can also serve the same purpose. That5 may be the minimalist in me coming outXD

One of the problems we face as writers is distractions. We have role-playing on this site, and there's no reason you couldn't start a new game. I've participated in a few in the past. Or perhaps you could host a challenge, even.

I don't see a point in making it young people only, but am not bothered by it. I know it exists out there. One of my fencing instructors subscribed to a Batman role-playing site, where he wrote short short stories in a fanfic sort of style about the Joker.

Anyways, a lot of fanfic sites to things like that, where people play games in a featured world, and here, we also have shared worlds, challenges where people can interact, and threads like, "Interview with So-and-so". So, do your own site if you like, or open a new game here. I personally think it's a good tool if it helps people develop their writing skills, but role-playing is very different than plotting stories, following outlines, getting familiar with story structure and writing beginnings and endings, which is really hard, etc..

If you find roleplaying to be a great tool, no one's going to complain about you starting a new game here, and if you want to check out some of the ones we've played in the past (some have been running for years), check out those forums and see whether any interest you.

As Devor stated, the decision is ultimately Black Dragon's. However, I will say that I'm generally against any exclusions on this forum, including age restrictions.

I know that's not how you're intending it, but you may stand a better chance of having your idea accepted as a forum room dedicated to writing for a certain group, not writing by a certain group.

There's plenty of interest in the fantasy genres for writing toward young people and YA audiences.

I agree with TAS. The forum is not the proper place for exclusions. However, if you're keen on socializing with other members in your age range, I encourage you to create a group.

I would be pretty cautious about this sort of thing as well. I think breaking down into factions can be problematic. I have considered the idea for a while for a few things and then discarded it.

I agree with Reaver that the right tool is a group if you want to stay within the confines of MS.

Nobody has hit thanks on the OP or on my post above. I don't think anyone is promoting this.

I would like to add to those suggesting that Groups is the right tool for it. I only wish that the Groups system here was more effective than it is. It's out of sight, out of mind, easy to forget and lose track of.

Oddly enough I think the whole out of site thing is one of the strengths of the group system here. There is no constant reminder that there is a group that you may not qualify for talking about stuff you might find valuable.

Yeah, for sure there needs to be a balance between being accessible to its members and being obnoxious to its non-members. I don't think the Groups system has achieved the first, even if it successfully avoids the second.

I like this idea! Yeah, I wasn't meaning to say to restrict it age wise but like the rules should be geared for younger and amatuer roleplayers.
