    throwing knives -- range/accuracy

Tough one. I would be lead to believe this is more of a parlor trick rather than proven combat method. Sure knives can be thrown accurately by a skilled person but thrown knives carry a great deal of their momentum in the fact that they are spinning foreword so the throw has to be timed...

    Swords vs Axes

Man this is a fascinating conversation. If I may throw some food for thought into it. Axes used in combat as previously mentioned were not always styled after a wood axe. They would have a thinner cutting edge than a splitting maul and a sharpened beard that would be used for hooking limbs, and...

    How do you write?

I see scrivener mentioned a lot. Is it worth the investment? As my writing gets longer I find word is getting tedious to revise and edit longer works.

    How do you write?

It has been a solid year since I have been writing and now that I am doing it again I have been handwriting my short stories in a spiral bound notebook for my first draft and then type it onto my laptop. I use the process as my first round to edit for grammar and spelling errors and to rework...

    Alternatives to typing your manuscript

I am a night owl and I keep seeing an infomercial for Dragon Software. Apparently you can type not just in word documents but can do things like surf facebook with it. I would love to give something like that a try but what I can't comprehend is how does the dication software handle paragraph...

    Holidays?

Thank you for your replies everyone! I was wondering since as the calendar progresses we hit holidays whether we like them or not. I as your story progresses and regardless of what the characters are doing their time frame moves through a holiday does mentioning so add anything to the story or...

    Holidays?

With halloween fast approaching I was wondering how many people include holidays in their storys? As long as time is passing your charcters would eventually run into a holiday, how would it effect your writing?

Editing, the hardest/most boring part of the process?

This pretty much sums it up.

    Troublesome Toe

I am just so excited I could shout it from the rooftops. I finally have something to show people. Literally just minutes ago I published a free short story on smashwords, Troublesome Toe. This is the first time I have done anything like this and I am so excited it is hard to actually type these...

    Stephen King Interview

I am a big fan of him, even though I don't write in, or even read terribly much of his genre. All of his interviews I have ever seen have been incredibly enlightening and insightful.

    The Fantasy Clichenomicron

unfortunately just about everything that makes my favorite race awesome is what makes them a cliche..... Dwarves living deep in a mountain mining and blacksmithing and just generally being badass :cry:

    Help Weapon's!

I think FatCat makes a great point. Short recurve bows would be manueverable on horseback with the bumping and bouncing of a moving horse. Easy to load and quick to fire. Also mentioning the mongols they used what is now called the mongolian thumb release that drew the bow back using the thumb...

    Happy Endings?

Of course as if on cue the ironic monster reared its ugly head, and after publicly announcing my 'meh' opinion of happy endings my very next short story ends with..... a happy ending. I should clarify that I don't horribly enjoy predictable stories where it is foreshadowed heavily that there...

    Happy Endings?

A happy ending, yes if the book makes me feel it's believable. I don't on the other hand overly enjoy what I would call 'disney' endings.
