I've also been invited, and also hesitant. I might try one of their short story contests, but no way am I submitting a novel until I know what I'm getting into!
It took me a long time to figure out my most productive way to write. Sounds like you're getting distracted by your formatting, which isn't something you should be worrying about for a looooong time. If double-spaced bothers you, switch it. If TNR or Courier bother you, switch it. Find the...
I don't know about "best", but a personal favorite (by far) is Kinuko Y. Craft. Beautiful, intricate work :-) I definitely think readers would pick up books with her artwork solely for the artwork (then they'd realize the books are good, too).
Hello! I haven't posted in months, mainly because I had a baby and we moved to a new state, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. I'm starting with updating this thread. Two things:
1) A link to my cover artist's portfolio: https://randomwaltz.wordpress.com/
There's not a LOT on it...
Wow, thanks guys! And thanks Butterfly for pronunciation. I only know how to pronounce the double L from "Llangollen", because of a B&B my mom and I stayed in Bath 10 years ago and the host bragged he knew how to pronounce it :-P Otherwise I'd be Youtubing about now. Heck I'll still probably...
I'm writing a character known as the Rose of Fire or the Flaming Rose, except that sounds really hokey to me, so I thought, hey why not make it Welsh? The story takes place in the Wales area some time ago. Google tells me it should be Rhosyn o Dân. Correct? Did I capitalize correctly for use as...
It's also getting a new cover (same overall design but better...or maybe something completely new, who knows?!?) with series info on it, so it's a good opportunity for "improvements" ;) Thanks for input!
In addition to fixing typos and grammar, is it okay to change sentences around and add sentences? I'm not thinking of adding huge blocks of text, just a few subtle changes that would help flow and help the characters act more like themselves. I did do some searching and just couldn't find a...
I'm happy to say after half a dozen or so submissions (of a variety of short stories) to calls posted on this Facebook group, my first was accepted yesterday...so it does happen!
I know you're only writing until about seven months, but I literally just had a baby boy ten days ago so an all-natural, medication-free labor and delivery is still very fresh in my mind if you want to go there.... :p I also worked until 38 weeks (40 weeks is the "due date" and my son was right...

Except I'm 99% sure it's an April Fool's Joke  I'm not very good at jokes.
The Game of Thrones paperbacks come to mind as very simplistic yet symbolic with a single image. Another example are the new Sabriel trilogy covers, plus I like the more unique font Sabriel (Abhorsen Trilogy): Garth Nix: Amazon.com: Books
I post about once a month on my website, or when something cool happens. I try not to stress about creating content, I just try to keep up some kind of presence. I then link to social media. If it's streasful, don't bother. Otherwise you can maintain it at a low level just to keep a presence and...
Juliet Marillier....anything! But especially her Sevenwaters trilogies. Daughter of the Forest remains one of my absolute favorites that I've reread an embarrassing amount of times. All her books fall into the fantasy/fairytale retelling/historical fiction/romance area, though the romance is...
