I have a character who is Irish.... hundreds of years old from Ireland Irish.
My question is do I write the character with an accent? It's seem a bit of debate on if you should write in an accent or let the reader create their own.
Then of course comes the question any good tips for...
I really liked Mistborn and I liked allomancy. I love when an author can create something new and no main stream.
I will say however that Mistborn, in my opinion, is the best book of that series. They get progressively worse. Sanderson begins to go overboard on showing so many character POV's...
The rejection comment made me smirk because those have been more than slightly humbling for me. :)
I've done very little reading in speculative fiction... I might need to look into that.
I think Urban Fantasy has grown a lot in the past few years. It did use to be mostly paranormal romance...
Great reply. I hadn't thought at all of the lack of true Science Fiction. Maybe me feel a bit shallow for a moment! haha
I do have to disagree with the character complaints on Kirk. I like that they've changed because he's not the same Kirk. They couldn't make the same Kirk and do it justice...
I will say the one area I feel women got the shaft the most was/is comic books. It feels to me only the past year have they begun to address that. All of the old school complaints about women being represented poorly do in fact apply in comic books. Most of them have unrealistically beautiful...
I always need to watch when I words such as 'never' or 'always'. :) Thanks for that catch.
I'm so bias on story driven vs. character driven story. I feel so often a character is altered to something that is was not when created or is created for a certain help in the story line but not...
Shoot... looks like hit the wrong button on my first reply.
I'm writing my second book. The first was a traditional fantasy book set in it's own world. It was fun but as a first book all I can see now our it's errors. :)
The book I am working on now is an urban fantasy. It has do with Irish...
Haha! Awesome thread and good point. So if a monster has flesh of a human then they must need something of a human diet. Flesh of an animal, flesh of an elf, and so forth. The only monster that wouldn't need food would have to be one that isn't from our planet correct? If it's ancestry comes...
Interesting discussion. I had a few females in my mind to bring to the table but after reading the qualifications what the character couldn't do or be they were quickly canceled out. But I got to thinking.... how many male characters are that great of a strong character? How many male leads have...
I'm glad I'm not the only Star Trek fan. :)
I had felt they did great with keeping the depth of the characters. They changed some massive things in Kirk and Spock's timeline. I love that they address that when dealing with the characters. They want to get Spock and Kirk to the friendship that...
