To add a thought on this based on LotR:
Of course we see the strong connection to the shire, and how this strongly affects the hobbits in both books and films (still so sad that they didn't include how they saved the shire form Saruman!)
Anyway, for me, personally, one of the strongest moments...

My dreams are often very realistic and only consist of scenarios that could happen in real life - I come too late to an exam, someone breaks up with me, I meet with my best friend, etc.
But my stranger dreams get really strange. Especially because m brain really seems to like symbolism, and...
Because this world can be just as interesting as any fantasy world.
Do you think the random hobbit nr. 76 who just lives like a normal peasant has an interesting life? No, even though Tolkiens world has so many interesting and awesome places, he never gets to see any of it.
Same with our...
:D Well, the perks of being a nurse :D
Still, I think you should give him some kind of explanation to why he could have survived this, since I don't think you want people to know right frrom the start that he died. :)
What are your tipps for writing dialogues with more than two people participating, for example, a council meeting, or just a bunch of friends talking?
I feel like this is particually hard, because it is so hard to tell the reader who is talking, without adding "said x" behind every sentence...
A lot more severe. Of course modern day medicine can do a lot, but only if applied immediatley afterwards. And as said, in countries where most of the population can't afford or have accsess to the best medical care humanity can offer, burn scars are still not only disfiguring, but can also lead...
Burn scars over such a big place will look really horrible. Burnt tissue has quite a bit of a problem healing back togehter, and the scar tissue is thick and very immobile - your protagonist won't have much facial expressions on the burnt side of the face.
Also, the scarred skin will look...
I have my first final exam tommorrow, and I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I mean, apparently, I have at least some idea what I'm doing since I haven't killed a patient (yet), but I feel like it's not enough to pass. And I have a really big urge to play dead.
My biggest problem too are dialogues, especially long dialogues that go on for quite some time and/or involve more than two people, like a council meeting or something along those lines. I always feel like my dialogues become too forced and unnatural in those scenarios. But I had this problem...
My workplace is for both (nurse)school and (hobby)writing, so... there are endless stacks of papers and books lying around, some with notes on dementia, some with notes on elves, and a lot of scribbles. The only free space on my dest is where my keyboard lies.
I spend most of the time in my...
Thank you both! I'm happy that I got everything right, I'm a little perfectionist, so I looked up a lot about maps and geography (I even started with where the tectonic plates lie under this specific part of my world)
Shading and making the impression that it only connects in the rainy times of...
In my head, the south-eastern part of the island is pretty high and has cliffs instead of shores, so I thought it would be logical that the river found some lower point there and filled it up, while the evaporation prevents it from spilling over.
I could make the lake in the north spill over...
