OP outlined the culture involved in this hypothetical and I don't think the reader would find this out of line, in that sort of a society, in a fantasy novel, is all.
I don't think OP felt for a second that this would ever be regarded as just in our culture in the real world, of course not and...
We're talking about the believability factor of such a measure in a fantasy context - not my personal views on excessive punishment. In the context of a fantasy world I wouldn't even blink at mention of a thief losing a hand, or indeed as we're discussing here, a man losing his junk for crossing...
Individually mortals wouldn't be more powerful than the Gods their faith creates though, so it's not quite as paradoxical as you've suggested. It would be collective worship and belief that would lead to a God rising to power and humans individually wouldn't compare to it, right?
I don't think it's too harsh a punishment at all, fits the crime IMO. I don't think adult fantasy readers will have much trouble digesting it in all honesty.
I think the reason names like that seem so jarring when they come up is because we recognise them as names of extinct animals in the context of our world and because of that association they'll always sound a little off. Might be an idea as mentioned above to come up with something that in...
Well I think an unnecessary problem you're creating for yourself is 'fantasy setting'. There's no standard for what kind of setting you can use in fantasy - or there shouldn't be in my opinion anyway.
I think fantasy readers are willing to accept a huge range of setting choices if they serve...
I'd say Sanderson's style differs depending on the series. I consider his writing in the Mistborn Series to be clean concise and quite careful. I think in The Stormlight Archive, so far, he's been a bit more colourful, a bit warmer, much more descriptive.
I think the one thing a lot of people...
I'd say if it's a believable response in that culture then go for it. As long as it fits in with the culture and their view on such crimes and measures for similar offences.
I mean, you could even go further and have a society where most men are neutered to play it safe but select lines are...
The richest Rymaerans live in Deijarune, the nation's capital. The core Rymaeran Royal Family live in a central palatial district and they are not permitted to leave. This district allows them to interact with the opulency (the wider royal family on the fringes of the breeding programme) and is...
Malik that sounds really cool, gotta love a bit of fluff when it comes to magical objects in fantasy, they're always fun to play with. Does he find out who crafted the shield?
And thank you Aurora, any posts on here about your world yet? :)
I love the mystery behind it (in the context of the story) - have you explored the weapon's history?
No no I don't think that would bode well for us Nomadica haha and thanks :)
Are there any elements or aspects of your world building that you've included as a bit of an easter egg or any that are a guilty pleasure?
I know it can be really tempting to include things you think others might find overdone or silly but they can be really fun too! As always, it's the way...
As with another post you've made here, it's all just a bit vague. It has the potential to be interesting but I must agree with Nomadica, this just reads as a setting to me right now.
Try and expand upon what you already have. What does the Triverse mean for the characters you want to explore...
