Skyrim - tell us about your character

I play a Nord Barbarian character who is...not too bright. His favourite food is cabbage. He gets lost all the time due to chasing butterflies and bunny-rabbits. He wanders around aimlessly for the most part. If he actually completes a quest, it was an accident. "Buh?! I find...

    Unlikable Main Characters

Catcher in the Rye was miserable indeed. Holden annoyed me so much. "Whine, whine, whine. Oooh, I'm cool because I swear. Watch me do stupid things. Hey, I feel like whining again so why don't I do that for the next 30 pages! Also, everybody is a phony."

    Favorite Creatures in Fantasy

Gryphons - for some reason, not a very common race in fantasy novels. Creatures from Hayao Miyazaki's films. From the God of Death in Princess Mononoke to Nausicaa's pet squirrel thing. They're all awesome. Fairies in Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. (They're not your typical sugary...

Are you seriously paying more than $10 for an e-book?

Bob the Bad Pirate says: "Ah, ye olde "you wouldn't download a car" argument. I would if I could! Also, if cheese makers decided cheese costs $8,000,000, would it be your fault you can't afford cheese?"

Are you seriously paying more than $10 for an e-book?

So I have a "pirate friend", let's call him "Bob", who gets all his books from the internet. In Bob's defence, he is a poor college student with like $3 in his bank account. The costs for ebooks are ridiculous considering there's absolutely no cost to print them. If they made it so that each...

    Avoiding the Damsel in Distress

As annoying as damsels-in-distress can be, there's something even worse: the strong female lead who becomes a soppy, mushy distressed mess as soon as she meets a love interest. Ugh. It's like "Why hello there, Man of My Dreams. I guess I don't need this anymore." *chucks her personality out the...

    Is magic always "Fireball Throwing"?

I find that whenever I write a story in which mages can shoot fireballs out of their hands, it never ends well. "Ahh!!! My hair is on fire!" "Ahh!!! YOUR hair is ALSO on fire!" "Ahh!!! You know that map we need for our Very Important Journey To Save The World and Everything? On fire."

It was a dark and stormy night...

What?!! A white van?!!! That's definitely going too far. How atrocious. Why would I pick such an awful thing for my avatar! Obviously, pink vans are superior. I did add a puppy though. That was a good idea.

Coming up with names for your characters and races and more...

Some Guy is my silly stock character. He is boring. His life is boring. He has a cat, who is also boring. He doesn't like change, he doesn't approve of "weird" people and he hates fantasy books or anything frivolous. I even have a character alignment for him, "Lawful Boring". Immersion is...

How do you create your stories?

My process for coming up with a story usually goes like this: Step 1: Do something mind-numbingly boring. The more boring, the better. Step 2: Inevitably stop paying attention to Boring Task in step 1 and drift away into imagination land. Step 3: Ahah! A WILD IDEA! Step 4: Decide that...

Would you write a graphic novel?

I'm working on a graphic novel as both author and illustrator. I prefer to work alone. I tried collaborating with a writer before, but it didn't work out. It's not very fun to be told what to draw and have no input at all in how the story turns out. I'm not a professional artist or anything and...

Coming up with names for your characters and races and more...

It takes me a lot of time to come up with a name. Sometimes a good name just comes to me, but until it does I use placeholders. I have way too many short stories where the protagonist is still named "Main", "Insert Name Here" or "Some Guy". I use behindthename.com a lot for ideas.
