700 words done today. I'm convincing myself that this is a first draft and is entitled to be rough.
“What I gone done? I killed a man. I done gone killed a man…”
He turned around, and seeing Doken still holding his hands to his eye, ran to him.
“Dernit, good buddy, you alright?”
“Gah, it...
I like to at least have a timeline of where my characters are gonna be at on which days. I also have a rough idea for how many chapters I'm gonna spend in a certain location. Then I just fly at her.
This NaNoWriMo, I actually have some examples for scenes I want to use, so there's a bit more...
It could be because you're a guy and because of our different locations. Kagoshima prefecture isn't nearly as populated as many other prefectures, and there aren't many foreigners. What's Kawasaki like? Also should point out that the stereotype of creepy old Japanese men was actually true where...
I love paper, but ebooks are just so much more convenient. And cheaper! Yet there's something about print books, like the physical act of turning the pages, the smell of new books, and the texture of paper, that make the reading experience so much more rewarding. It makes it, well, an experience...
Before I moved back to Canada, I used to bring my stuff to McDonald's every Sunday. Got a lot of stares, but that was because I was foreign and stood out like a sore thumb. The worst was when they interrupted me just to ask where I'm from. After the thousandth time, it gets pretty old.

Anything epic, like Two Steps from Hell or Epic Score. But I don't need music to write. I use it more to visualize certain scenes while I'm out for a jog or travelling.
Deciding whether or not to keep a chapter can certainly be a challenge. Maybe a save an extra draft, rewrite the thing, and compare the two? If you can't decide, then you can put up your work in the showcase forum and we can give you some advice.
OR, you can try writing the scene from a...
Love the discussion about non-human races! Maybe we should make a new thread about it?
About buildings. Like Svrtnsse, I describe as is necessary for the plot. The same can be said for other architecture, such as bridges. For example, in my secondary world, there's an old, natural bridge...
Hi thedarknessrising. I was in a similar boat a couple years ago. Got to chapter 6 and realized it was going to take more than one book to complete the story. I'm still in the middle of writing it, having just completed my second draft of the second book. So here's my experience:
I used...
I don't think this bugs me so much as I used to be a much more sensitive person. But yeah, I agree that you need to develop some backbone if you're going to be able to take a critique. Just think: criticism on your work is going to make your writing better. And that awful knot feeling you get...
In that context, I think the confusing thing for me was having this girl talk right away and thinking it was Torkel or Berje. I'd rephrase that last paragraph like this.
That way, we've got a good exit of Burje when Tessica starts talking and our focus is shifted to her.
Yeah, aside from my own? :D
I'm gonna have to go with either Middle Earth or the world from the Sword of Shannara trilogy. For Middle Earth, there are just so many places to explore, and it's easy to go travelling around...so long as you don't get impaled by an orc arrow. lol For the Sword of...
I agree with people who say to just keep writing. Writing days are full of kinks that need ironing out. I always remind myself that even if I write crap, I can always revise it later. That's what separates a rough draft from a revised one. It's never going to be perfect the first time.
