    Using RL Cultures For Worldbuilding

Can I add a question about basic mechanics? I feel that I am running into a similar/related problem with my current WIP. I am currently creating a fantasy western but am unsure of the best way to move forward. I know I want to create my own world loosely based on the Wild West but do they still...

Ashes to Ashes- Post Apocalypse Story

Just on the point of Walking dead, I would say that if you watch it all the way to season 4 you will see that it is very character driven and the zombies are a mere side issue. Im not saying that the series doesn't have flaws but it has been part of my world building process when looking at...

    angels and demons

I came up with, what I thought would be, a great story line about the war between angels and demons but after doing some research I found lots of stuff out there :-( However, I do believe that you should write about what interests you regardless of what's out there otherwise you run the risk...

    Syre Map

I have looked at your map a couple of times and agree with Joe. There is a nice feel to the map. Out of interest what did you use to create your map?

Do i need to classify my writing at all?

Fellow Mythic Scribers Just something that is niggling at me as i write. When i choose to read fiction i generally wander over to the fantasy and Sci-Fi section. This is where i find the most interesting stories, characters, creatures etc. I read for escapism and i tend to watch programmes...

    Cat fact or fiction

Thank you everyone for the extra input. I am aware of the warriors series but have not read any of them on purpose so as not to influence my writing. should i though so as i know what not to write?

    Help creating the Arc....

Thank you all again for the input. I recently found an article (I forget who by) who set out this regime of writing 350 words a day minimum. Think I might give this a go as I will be writing then and towards a target. I have puzzled all night about structure and story arc and all your help on...

    Help creating the Arc....

Not sure if I'm at all good enough or qualified enough to give any sort of critique yet! Very much a complete novice! Finding some writing groups is a good idea. I also run a creative writing group at the school I work at so may try some stuff on the pupils or the teachers in the English...

    Help creating the Arc....

Thank you all for your feedback. I think I will do most of what you have all said. I think I need to get writing and I can change things later. I will look into some of the ways I can structure and see what happens. It will also be useful to get some of my work analysed. I put a paragraph on...

    Help creating the Arc....

I Would like to pose a question to the forum, from a beginner to the wise old heads ;-) Is there any good methods in creating a stories arc? I have an idea, I have various scenes in my head that are not yet connected, I have character names and I know how I want my story to end. But I'm...

    The world comes first!

Thanks for all the responses people. A good debate going here. I like the idea of having many stories coming from the same world and not necessarily connected by the same characters. I guess story and world can grow together and I think I will play with both as I go!

    The world comes first!

A quick question: has anybody designed their world first, populated it, decided on society and history etc and THEN thought 'right, what stories could happen here?' Has the personal sandbox become inspiration for writing? Thoughts/opinions?

    What inspired your current novel?

I have had a lot of ideas floating around in my head. I picked one and am now running with it. The inspiration? Firstly my own cats. At home we love giving them voices and figuring out their characters. Secondly, Neil Gaimans 'The Price'. I love this and set me off on writing loads of ideas...
