Hi there people,
In 2012 I made an account on here, and after posting for several months, it appears I fell off the face of the earth. Life happened to me. In 2012 I was a young(ish) man with no real resonsibilities. The last 8 years however have been filled with "experiences", both good and...
I find it very odd when reading a book, the names will be like... Arden, Rand, Bast, Tywin, etc, then randomly just have a name like Frank in the middle of all of those. Makes me lol. I don't mind the religious/mythical name borrowing so much.
Does that ever happen to you? It's quite depressing when it does. Some days you're working away, typing/writing, with great ideas in mind. The next week you just get a feeling like "nah, this is all wrong". Not ideal.
C'mon now. You have to seriously shorten that one day being 144 pages long thing. You could kill two birds with one stone here. Just shorten that and you'll be able to get a nice first volume of less thas 600 pages. Works a lot better. It actually pains me to think how slow this day must move...
At the moment, the project I'm working on, I do have a bare outline I am working from, but I just can't get the specifics right. It is really puzzling, moreso than I am used to. Say, I can think about certain things for a week, come up with a few ideas, different possibilities, but then still...
Hey. Could do with some help deciding one of the specifics for my current project.
A minor rebellion is getting out of hand, threatening more civil unrest. A young man lives with his family, consisting of his mother, father and younger sister. The family run a business (I am thinking something...
Science was always a bit boring in my opinion. Why would anyone want a hovercraft and a light saber when you could have a horse and a morning star?! Some people...
You may not have been happy with the results you got from this approach, but that doesn't necassarily mean it is a bad approach or the wrong approach. Some people would say it is better to get the bad stuff out of your head, rather than supressing it. So think, after this exercise you have...
Ravana's post reminds me, I was glancing through a book the other day, name of Kushiel's Dart. The maps had their own unique place names as far as I could tell, but I immediately noticed, and was very confused by the maps being used. They were basically the British isles and northern Europe, but...
Is there a limit? Should a person draw the line? What is your personal view on this?
An example. I am developing a story which focuses mainly on the capital city of an island nation, only vaguely passing through any other places or towns. I am not a huge fan of naming things, and in my drafts...
I shall bear that in mind when I finally jump into that book. On a first read through of The Name of the Wind at the moment, so it may be a while before I actually get into any of these books. By then, who knows what I may have found in other charity shops!
Currently working on two projects, constantly getting ideas and thoughts which don't fit either one, I just have to scribble down and leave for later. Also getting a vague idea developing for a third project.
Hey all.
Today I picked up 3 books from a local charity store for a grand total of just £2.49/$3.91/€3.10. Just wondering if anyone here has read any of them, and if so, are they good? Finding these has given me the urge to go hunting in other local charity stores to see what I can find, there...
