My Ultimate List of Races and Creatures I have found or Made up for my own world.

BJ Swabb

Sage
Hey yall I though I would share my Ultimate list of creatures and races that I have come up with / found. Many may be just what I came up on the spot to make for my own series. NOTE: There are creatures / races here that have copyright rights. So be careful if you try and use them. May have to replay of what they are named and etc. If you want to use copy written material you will just have to simply contact those who have copywrites of the work/creature/race and ask them. They may send you legal documents and the okay or they may not. I have gone through may loops to get permission to use certain creatures and races (thanks to my sister who has connections :) ).

You are using all of these creatures in your story?
Not all of them, but alot of them are. And who knows maybe they will all enter somehow or another. But for now only the ones I have permission for or have made my own.

If you are looking for a long list of creatures, its hard to beat Dungeons and Dragons and all their various Monster Manuals.

I personally would avoid using any that were not clearly in public domain, or my own creations. But...you are likely free to use any that have not been trade marked, of which, almost all of them aren't. Orcs, for example, are a Tolkien creation, but many people use them. Copyright pertains to the arrangement of words, but he cannot own the concept. Thus, Orcs are back on the table!

I would still avoid using them.

The mome raths always stick in my mind for some reason!

If you’re including creatures from pop culture they also make me think of the Susuwatari, or the soot creatures from Spirited Away.

And then of course you can go down the black hole of made up creatures from popular culture.

I'm going to be honest here. I don't know what the purpose of this is. If you just need a race for a random background character then I'm sure there's already plenty of random race generators out on the net or you could *shudder* have an AI give you a list of fantasy races and then roll some dice.

Gurkhal

Auror
That's a long list. I hope you get use for most of them so that you didn't get permission for something which you ended up not using.

Personally I'm a bit hesitant to go beyond the use of humans and actually existing animals in my stories but if done right, I'm sure the inclusion of those creatures can add to your story.

By the way. Is there a particular theme or mood you're looking for which is driven or helped by the inclusion of so many different fantastical species?
