Effectiveness of Free Promotions?

Hi guys,

I am in the middle of my first free promotion (although not for a fantasy novel so I won't go into it), and I got up to #3 in the top 10 of my category (whoo!).

I was just curious if this actually does something other than get your book out there?

Do people have stats on what effect free promotions have on their actual sales once the promotion is over?

I'd be glad with some reviews out of it, but who knows. Any experiences to share in regards to free promotions?

Lindsay Buroker is really helpful to fellow self-publishers, putting out a lot of very informative statistics and advice. Another one who's very good is Lexi Revellian Lexi Revellian. And both of them write terrific books, too!

Thank you very much, Pauline. The 10% discount is HUGE! I was really hoping for a #1 position in Kindle Mathematics when I woke up today. Glad to understand why that didn't happen. Got to get the sequels out there and show consistent sales.
