I must hurry in writing this, so I am sorry for its brevity, but you will understand why as you read. You will remember Damon Teg, the butcher of the Tower so beloved by M? We have found out that he has been working with R and has been passing on information for some time now. I know, I know, you never trusted him. You can tell me ‘I told you so’ later!
I also have to tell you that FL and BD are dead. I am so sorry. Teg’s son killed them by poisoning them (and others). He claims it was an accident, and they deny any involvement with the Clex of course, but it cannot be. We know of Teg’s connection with R now, and the poisoning is so destructive of all our plans, that it must have been targeted. They must know more than we ever suspected. Which means there is a mole in our ranks.
I bring you this news with a heavy and sorrowful heart, and one day we will console each other on that Bright Day we know is coming, but for now, we must gather ourselves and deal with this mole issue. I have begun to go through our lists and investigate who has been where and when, in the hopes of discerning a pattern that can be of use. I urge you to do the same and tell me of anything of interest that you find.
In the meantime, the mid-winter plans are shelved and we cannot progress with ford crossings until we know more. I know how disappointed you will be, but we cannot risk it right now.
R has been seen in the Little Colonies, so be on your guard, though I doubt he would be so stupid as to reveal himself to L.
M is calling me. He’s worried that his precious harvest will be disrupted because of all this mess. Many are ill and the traders want blood. I know M will be expecting me to sort it with minimal fuss and with no long-term adverse effects on Teg. For my part I would see him swing if I could. I must go.
