Seeking Ideas For Magic-Users In The Early 19th Century

The TTRPG game Victoriana presents a pretty cool example of what the world would look like if magic, nonhuman races and divine forces existed in the Industrial Age. There are plenty of pdfs around, so feel free to take a look for some inspiration.

How do you handle Elemental Magic Systems?

My system is basically that magic is the manipulation of the elements. It is an art that anyone can do with practice and study, though not everyone can be good at it. Magic is powered by mana, life energy that flows throughout nature and all life. All magic in the world is connected to the six...

    Magic System

Or maybe even have mages be used for disaster relief and control, like water mages for floods, earth or fire mages for volcanoes, and air mages for tornadoes and hurricanes. They won't be strong enough to fully negate these natural disasters, but they can lessen the damage they cause.

    Magic System

Magic itself in fantasy is a cliche, but it's done differently enough that no one calls it out these days. Elemental magic is no different, only certain series like Avatar and WOT put their own spin on it. The important thing is that you try to figure out how much impact your magic will have on...

What are the Consequences of using Magic in your World?

I love magic that people can learn instead of the common "magic gene" that authors use. I like toying with the idea that magic can be commonly learned but still takes time and effort to properly harness and is easy to abuse if you're not careful.

What are the Consequences of using Magic in your World?

In my world, magic draws upon mana, life energy present within nature and living beings. Overexerting one's magical capabilities can cause severe exhaustion, fatigue and, in extreme cases, even death. Second, magic requires preparation; spellcasting is a precise art that must be done right or...

    blog Elemental Magic: Trope Reboot

Yeah, every element has a good side and a bad side. Fire often gets a lo of crap for being naturally destructive, but it's no different from a tornado, a flood or a landslide. The elements by themselves are neutral, but it's how they are used in magic that paints a person's viewpoint on them.

    blog Elemental Magic: Trope Reboot

I've recently started taking a shine to elemental magic, especially ones that take it a different step. Avatar is one of the most famous examples of how magic can be used in society. Not to mention that elemental magic doesn't even have to differ all that much from the norm. It can be enhanced...

    My Elemental Magic System

The first is energy. All magic uses mana as a power source. It works just like stamina. Every act of magic uses mana, and using too much magic can exhaust the mage until they recharge their energy. This is why novice mages are trained in manipulating their mana first, both to increase their...

Element: Sky (yes, another thread on elemental magic)

I feel like they'd be more attracted to elements of the natural world, like the sun, moon and earth. Or the seasons. You know, I think fairies would be more connected to the seasons than the elements, but that's just me.

Element: Sky (yes, another thread on elemental magic)

That's a shame. I too had a magic system that uses the elements from both Japanese and Chinese philosophy and running into this thread was a pleasant surprise. It was nothing special, just elemental magic that draws power from the six elements-Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Metal and Wood.

    My Elemental Magic System

So, I think I made a similar thread about this a year or two ago when I first joined this site, but this is something new I wanted to throw out there for people to see. This magic system is of the elemental flavor, and is something that I based off of the Witchery magic system from the...

Element: Sky (yes, another thread on elemental magic)

You know, you could just make Void that binding element that connects the other elements together. Something that regular people can't harness but are aware of. From what I've seen, you're doing a six element magic system, right? Fire, water, earth, air, wood and metal? I could be totally wrong...

    Describe your magic system

I've developed an elemental magic system that's basically based on Witchery from the Witchlands book series. In my series, I'm trying to show how different cultures view and use the same magic system across the world, both in practical, cultural and religious viewpoints. Anyone can learn magic...

    Magic (preliminary)

So I take it elemental magic is the sole magic system in this world, at least for now? Also, is it genetic or free for anyone to learn? Despite its rarity, does it have some sort of impact on the world in some way?
