If the name is something highly unique, then yes, you'll probably have to change it. But there are many Hanks or Freds in the world. Having two different beings with the same name is not uncommon by any stretch. If you like it that much, I'd say keep it.
Personally, I like chapter titles. They give me a little bit of incentive to read the next chapter, a little clue of what I can expect, and are a way of adding to the flavor of the world.
I agree with the others. For me, 'dragon magic' references the magic that dragons perform. In my mind, something as large and tough as a dragon doesn't need to prove to others how big and strong he is (some of the biggest guys I know are some of the gentlest), so the magic most used wouldn't be...
1. I research via the web and organize that I find in folders on my PC
2. MS Word with separate files per chapter. I will compile all the chapters into one file so I can use Word's analysis of reading level and such on the entire book.
3. Again Word. I give each chapter file a version number...
Ever since I got into computing (in HS) I've wanted to write an adventure game. Years went by and I never made the attempt. Then one day, a co-worker showed me his attempt at writing. He was a big Tom Clancy fan, so this prologue started with two double agents in a conversation. The writing was...
Sounds like you need to partner with someone. You could do all of the map making/drawing and just contribute to the writing (rather than being the main creator of the text).
In the first book of the series I'm working on the characters meet Pegausi (is that plural for Pegasus?) and Unicorns (both of which they believed to only be creatures of legends), as well as trolls and goblin. And then there are humanoid races of Neathians (think dwarves) and Alturians (an...
If you're looking for a technically correct answer, then I think many possibilities have already been described.
Generally speaking, I believe Tolkien is considered the father of fantasy because he was the first author to create a widely popular book in the genre.
I had a writer friend of my use my first name and the last name of a mutual friend of ours to name one of her characters. I found it to be an honor (since the characters wasn't a bad guy).
Perhaps the act of restoring the power could require a couple of steps in and of itself. Maybe 3 switches need to get turned on, or after the power is turned on there is another safety switch located someplace else that needs to be turned on. What is restoring power required the player to get a...
I think that would depend on your answer to this question: How does one become a dragon slayer?
Is everyone in that dragon-slaying race a dragon slayer? Surely some hold other professions. How do the slayers become the ones who slay?
If it's a test of worthiness, then they might let in people...
I agree. You're bringing up the very questions I'm wrestling with. The more I think about it, the more an indirect approach makes sense. But I'm, still trying to see if I can create a way of teaching by example while being consistent with a fantasy world. I don't want to lose the fantasy feel of...
True.
I enjoy writing apologetics as well. And I've had this growing desire to start a blog on what daily life should look like for a follower of Jesus. I think this is additional confirmation that I need to write more along those lines.
Thanks!
True. It's a fight with spiritual weapons rather than worldly.
I guess I'm more accustomed to describing worldly things than spiritual (I wonder what that says about me?)
