I write fiction under Maris McKay, mostly because my real name is running a blog, publishing non-fiction, and writing professionally. I wanted to keep the two separate for marketing reasons. Especially because the target audience doesn't overlap much. The blog is about personal growth from a...
I like both, whether reading or writing. It depends on the story which one works better. I do tend to write more in first-person since I like getting into the characters' heads. But there are times it just doesn't fit the story (even without multiple characters) so I'll write close third.
I've written a couple stories set in a future version of our earth, but most take place on my own planet. I spend the majority of my writing time on a single continent, though I am starting to branch out and fill in the rest of Ves’endlera's map.
I'm a returning user, and just wanted to introduce myself. It's been about five years since I've been on Mythic Scribes, but I've been feeling lonely for a writing group lately. I'm so happy to find you're still here and the community seems to be thriving! Looking forward to getting involved again.
My first thought on this question is that I want to write "human" stories but not work within the confines of our world, so I usually write humans in a fantasy setting and focus on developing rich cultures for them. When I do write non-humans, I want there to be a reason for their "otherness"...
What a coincidence -- I just logged in today to look for a critique partner.
I don't have professional experience with editing, but I do have a B.A. in English, with a minor in creative writing. While in school, I was able to take four work-shop style classes where all the students read each...
One of my favorite writing resources is Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi's Emotion Thesaurus. They have an online supplement about the different ways men and women tend to express "cardinal emotions," and it includes an entry on love. You might find that helpful.

For characters, I like to use names that give a sense of the culture I'm trying to evoke. If I'm writing something similar to Medieval Europe, this is my favorite resource: Medieval Names Archive For other cultures, I used Google and baby name books to research name conventions and meanings...
I usually write without an outline, but last year for NaNo I filled about eight pages in a notebook with character sketches, world-building notes, and a 3-page bullet-point outline. It was just enough to keep me moving forward when I got stuck. Maybe something like that would work for you...
Oops, sorry. I thought it was sufficiently vague. This is probably a stupid question, but how do I edit posts?
Edit: an edit post button appeared on this post, but not the other one
I liked it for the most part, particularly the first two seasons. I had a hard time getting into the third season, and actually just finished watching it a few weeks ago. All my favorite characters died
Guy was my favorite part of the series, even after what happened with Marian. I...
