Great input. Thanks everyone. I am leaning towards not using the earth animals as a description, and letting the readers mind run with it.

Two different points, and both well taken. Anybody else? The image in my head of the animal is so vivid, I just want to share that with people. So I am trying hard to do the animal justice.

Each character to their own! If she is a tailor, then sew away. If she is a butt-kicker, then kick away. A reader should either fall in love with the characters attributes or relate to them. I was told I better get thick skin before I allow people to read my stuff. So I am getting ready.

idknull is correct imo. If the character is talking about or thinking about the noble, all kinds of names could be used. But when actually having dialog, then come up with the proper name: My Lord, Sir, last name, etc.
