Which is the correct way to write this sentence(s)?

Okay cool! Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I know that mixing "ed" and "ing" verbs in one sentence is something I do pretty frequently as a writer. (I am not sure if the specific grammatical term for this though). So I just wanted to make sure that it is grammatically sound.

Which is the correct way to write this sentence(s)?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. This has been very helpful. Rosemary Tea - This scene is not from Yhora's POV. It is from her captain's POV. This scene occurs later in the story after I have established how the magic system works. This species sometimes scar their skin which enhance one of...

Which is the correct way to write this sentence(s)?

A reader pointed out to me that I am mixing up verb tenses in my sentences. I didn't even realize I was doing it. Can you help me figure out the right way to write this? Option A Yhora closed her eyes, her purple scars glowing. Option B Yhora closed her eyes. Her purple started to glow. I...

    Inspirational Music for Writing?

I personally love the connection between music and writing. Before I got into creative writing, my dream was to be a guitarists/vocalist for a metal band. That didn't work out (my rhythm and timing is kinda off, unfortunately). Long story short - I got into writing as another way to translate...

    Inspirational Music for Writing?

Yes. I love music while writing. I grew up on heavy metal, so I think that is probably where I get a lot of my inspiration from. Recently, been listening to a lot of The Sword. Very old school and with cool epic/fantasy style lyrics!

    Non-literal definitions for words

True. We have done some pretty serious bird walking here.

    Non-literal definitions for words

Okay, yes the Muppets joke is funny. I did chuckle a little bit. It is true that there is a forum for offensive or edgy humor. When I was teen I watched a lot of South Park and Family Guy because I thought it was funny but then as I got older, I realized how much they rip on people and that it...

    Non-literal definitions for words

Fair point. I think the key words you used though are "if done carefully."

    Non-literal definitions for words

I am sorry, I am still unclear as to why you asked this question in the first place. I am not completely sure this counts as dramatic irony. Dramatic irony is like when Romeo killed himself because he thought Juliet is dead but she had just taken a sleeping potion.

    Non-literal definitions for words

Mic drop. Seriously though - this kind of humor is not really funny. At best you get a groan or an eye-roll as a response and at worst you upset a lot of people.

    Non-literal definitions for words

It's difficult for me to answer this question because I don't really know why you are asking them. Are you writing characters who set each other up like this? It feels very old school humor like Abbot and Costello. Could work if you are writing a novel that places a while back though. Also to...

    Ideas for communicating between characters

Thats a good point. I wanted to avoid hand waving so I don't come across as taking the easy route. But it sounds like I am over complicating something that doesn't really need to be, overly complicated.

    Ideas for communicating between characters

Thanks! These are really great ideas. To answer this question: "Do giants speak the way humans do? Orally, in words? Or is their way of communicating entirely different?" I imagine them speaking kind of like the ents from LOTR. Meaning taking a verrrry long time to say things. They are very...

    Ideas for communicating between characters

Oh yeah haha. Drawing pictures! I guess the fantasy writer in me always wants to make things more magical but sometimes the simplest answer is the best

    Ideas for communicating between characters

Hi! I need some help with getting my characters of very different races/species to communicate. Basically, in my WIP a human woman washes up on an island inhabited by giants. She doesn't speak their language and they don't speak hers. I don't want to go the "hand waving approach and give her...
