For me it is a bit of everything.
I am a visual thinker, so it usually starts with an image that I see or something that comes to me.
Dreams are great for that.
That leads me to either a story idea or setting.
Then I can let my imagination [a little] loose.
I used to dive deep into world...
Never on the scale of what is happening in the Middle East but I have had neighbours that stopped me writing.
For me the answer was to close the windows and darken the room... And a kick-ass set of noise-cancelling headphone with an epic playlist.
And for my personal wellness I took up mediation...

In truth a lot of the Donjon site can a wonderful time sink.
I've never thought of Elves as particularly Asian in look or style.
I used to play a Wood Elf army in Warhammer Fantasy Battle and they were very definitely inspired by the 1938 film The Adventure of Robin Hood. They all looked like The Merry Men, in hues of green and brown.

Not that long ago I got a one month ban from a user's forum for quoting part of the operation manual, when I was asking for clarification on what a statement meant. that was taken to be Bot/AI activity.
So there is your lesson.
If it is not a permanent ban, next time post something barely coherent with appalling syntax, spelling and grammar.
I have dipped a toe in a few of the Reddit's pools and found it less than helpful.
I managed to keep up with the Star Trek movies but lost touch with the TV/Streaming shows after Enterprise.
While I freely admit there was a lot wrong with ST:E, I did like the show once it go going in season 2.
But I hated how it ended. That felt like a kick in the teeth.
