How Much Planning Do you Do before starting your story

Hello, I myself just took an unplanned hiatus from writing myself and I've also come back to find things have changed with me a little. I grew a lot in the past two/three years and experienced things I never have been that's created different interests. Too much planning is when that is ALL...

Is it good to let people read your plot idea?

Off topic...I created this post in 2012? Huh? Jesus I'm getting old. But so nice to see some of the same faces here still! Love this place and been away far to long. On topic - seen some really mixed opinions. But I agree. An idea is just an idea and any writing it would do it differently. I...

    Character vs plot

Hmmm...tough question. I think it's ok to have a square peg in a round hole but if something feels off and getting another person's perspective is not possible then maybe some re-thinking is needed. Maybe the plot is solid but the character isn't. If so you may need to refine your character a...

Which of these worlds' climates sounds like it'd provide the more interesting setting?

By conflict I don't literally mean conflict. It doesn't have to be external conflict through arguments and battles. I can't think of many "peaceful" novels. They all have at least some internal conflict. There are many kinds of conflict in writing

I wouldn't be thinking of what's more interesting. I'd be thinking along the lines of what causes more conflict.

    Losing Interest When Writing?

First it happens to everyone creative I think. But have to considered that maybe your putting your skills in the wrong area? My friend, Ryan, used to do a lot of writing, or should I say and lot of grand world-building. And he'd come up with some amazing characters and unique abilities and a...

    Mythology Writers

I tend to try and create my own stuff, but if I'm struggling I will research Mythology but I tend to avoid Greek, Norse and Japanese as we see that stuff so much. I tend to look for mythology that is unknown.

What are the consequences of NOT using magic in your world?

I do include magic systems but they tend to enhance plot or character if they offer nothing much then I just ditch them. In a Sci-fi Fantasy the Magic needed to be complex and run with the Science of my planet as it was being used in a medical fashion (they were learning to do heart transplants...

    Your Dwarves

It depends which beard we're talking about. Rainbow colours might work nicely

    Your Dwarves

I can definitely vouch for the facial hair and I'm as female as they come!

    Your Dwarves

I don't think I've ever used Dwarfs in my Fantasy novels or elves or dragons. I don't even know much about them. But I do enjoy researching mythology and there are other's I have used like Banshee's but I tend to create my own species because they need to fit into their environment.

    How To Break A Charater

Often what make people a certain way is a mixture of things. It is environmental and social but it is also the make up of the brain. And what tends to be effective is multiple things in a person's life and then those things being confirmed. So as a teen a character might pf had a friend whose...

    blog Faith-Based Fantasy

I often see in old books that they were simply a form of what the times were. Which is why I don't think old works can be judged by our opinions today. People have become far too sensitive. I don't like hurting people's feelings and will avoid doing it at all costs, I don't agree in deliberately...

I have more/better ideas for the sequel than the main story. How to go about it?

You start with the sequel as your first book. Don't write an OK story just to get to the good one. Write the good one. You want to start where the meat of the story is.
