What is your opinion on cutaway perspectives.

I'm glad to get the opposite perspective. (A different perspective, ha.) Kasper Hviid, how do you feel about toggling perspective between two mains? I am currently using it myself and the book Pax by Sara Pennypacker uses it consistantly. I like it because I can reveal lies to the audience while...

What is your opinion on cutaway perspectives.

I love them. Especially for humor. Cutaway perspective: Unexpected head-hopping or a new chapter that features the point of view from a new character. Brandon Sanderson uses them (to the frustration of his editor). I was reading a fantasy novel, I want to riddle you the title for now. What do...

leave the pistol on the wall?

I like this reflection on Chekov's Gun. I would let your character pack and lose the tool. Imagine this three point story. 1) Man has gun safely stowed under mattress. He can defend himself, huzzah. 2) Mafia breaks into his house--oh no! No worries, he has a gun. 3) Checks mattress. The hell...

    Story ideas overload

The only ideas that matter are the ones you can express to other people. You got twenty or so ideas in your head: that's awesome. I truly mean that. Get those twenty ideas in my head and I'll buy those twenty books.

    Dreams of teeth falling apart

Write a character who has anxiety about his braces. Probably as a secondary characteristic. When I had braces I dreamed of them being peeled off by the wire. Plink-plink-plink-plink.

Let's talk about short stories, blurbs and woodpeckers!

If I may be your barker, I would blurb this: Awaiting his execution, an innocent(?) man is imprisoned with a martian woodpecker(?). With no way out, he will face a terrifying choice. Assuming he is innocent, I like the contrast of prison versus innocent. Using 'is imprisoned' is just a matter...

    Fantasy Counterpart Cultures

All allegorical stories aside. Researching culture is necessary to kit-bashing your own. The what ifs you are asking about Renaissance Italy are naturally going to bring your novel to life. Can it be done poorly, yes--anything can be done poorly if you try your darnest. As for imagining the...

    Edward's Hello

I never intended to learn how to draw but it was a required course for my diploma. I was fortunate enough to have a series of incredible instructors and I've been doing it since. The secret is lifedrawing, due to nudity I can't recommend it for young people, but I got addicted to it and used to...

    Fictional Ethnicities and Bloodlines

Thinking about the webbing example. A tiny physical detail you may like: white people have longer and thinner noses for warming up air. Colored people don't need to warm up the air and thus had broader noses. I think the trade-off is it's easier to breathe through a broad nose. It's subtle...

    Edward's Hello

Hello, I'm Edward I'm been working in TV animation for five years. It is a fine line of work, but I only have one life so I am learning how to write. I'm finishing up my second novel currently. I'm here because I want to talk shop, joke around, and have !!fun!! with like minded people. Talk to...
