Sadly, no. My main protagonist, the antagonist's grandchild, doesn't have facial hair (she's a girl). But, she is missing a toe on her left foot and has a deeply scarred left leg, if that counts :P

I suppose it really depends on what kind of story you are trying to tell. In the fantasy worlds, I like to write, the darkest aspects are front and centre, but that's just a personal preference. There is no better route to take: dark or light. There's only the one you must take, for the story...

I would totally still use them, personally! It's not really the dragon (or the elf, for that matter) that matters. It's what you do with them. A mythical creature is just a tool, like everything else. What counts, what makes your work original, gripping, spellbinding, is what you do with them!
