I was born in England in the mid twentieth century. My family immigrated to the Americas, first to Canada in 1959, and then the United States in 1961. I served in the U.S. Navy in the late 60’s, spending most of my time in the Western Pacific in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Viet Nam. As a civilian I worked many jobs, including as a central office installer for Western Electric; a railroad conductor for the Chicago and Northwestern RR; and a restaurant owner, before returning to school, earning a B.A. in English from Northern Illinois University. After graduating I worked as a technical writer for various software companies until my retirement in 2013.

I live in DeKalb, Illinois with Maria, my wife of 35 years, my 3 children and my 2 grandsons. Hobbies include writing, woodworking and golf.
